Taking Action – planning and coaching

What stop’s you from moving forward? This was the question posed to me by life coach Angela Watson Robertson recently in a phone call. A great question for me to ponder as I ponder my directions for the new year. Getting stuck or experiencing inertia, happens to all of us from time to time.

Here is what Angela shared with me regarding the importance of planning and the benefits of receiving coaching:

In our modern world where our lives are so full and busy, it can be difficult to stay on top of our goals and keep moving forward. Yet, if we want to continue to evolve, grow and fulfill our mission and vision for our life, planning is important. Coaching can help. A coach will serve as your accountability partner, mentor and project manager for your dreams to keep you on track.

In my coaching practice, I help clients get clear about what they really want to experience in their life, then create specific detailed goals to get them there. In each session together we identify action items to be completed in order to take small, consistent steps toward a more meaningful, productive and fulfilling life.

Often we back away from taking action in our lives because of old belief systems and fear.   We tell ourselves stories:

  • I don’t have the time
  • I don’t have the money
  • I don’t have a way or a plan to begin to make serious change.

This is where a mentor or coach can come in and provide a different reflection to us.  They help us map out the who, what, when and how.  Their guidance providing us an opportunity to break the old code of beliefs  so that we can move on in a powerful new way.

I have personally relied on coaches and mentors to help me through my life’s directional changes.  They were powerful change agents who reminded me of my journey and the value I bring to the world.  I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them.
